The basics
What is Description.me?
It replaces the static files you send about your work with one living link. The same profile data can be read as a CV, a portfolio, a byline list, a hire me page, a media kit or a link in bio page, and anything you edit is live the moment you save.
Who is it for?
Anyone whose work needs to be seen: job seekers, designers, developers, writers and journalists, freelancers and consultants, creators, musicians, photographers, coaches and people who mainly share through social bios.
Do I need a website?
No. There is nothing to host, build or template. You fill in your details, pick a mode, and publish a link that works on any device.
What is a descriptive?
A descriptive is one published link with its own address, sections and analytics. Free includes one; Pro allows up to ten, so you can keep separate links for separate audiences.
The six modes
How do the six modes work?
You enter your details once: roles, education, skills, projects, published pieces, services, rates, audience stats and links. A mode decides how that data is laid out and which sections show. Switching mode is free and unlimited.
CV mode
Structured experience, education and skills, a spoken intro instead of a cover letter, attachments, verified references and a one-click PDF export for forms that still insist on a file.
Portfolio mode
Case studies with cover media and reading time, plus live preview cards for GitHub, Figma, Notion, Behance or Canva links, so people can click into the work rather than read about it.
Bylines mode
A canonical clip file. Paste an article URL and the headline, outlet, date and cover are pulled in. Pin your strongest pieces, and see which ones editors actually opened.
Hire me mode
Services and packages with starting prices and timelines, an availability strip covering notice period and contract type, and an enquiry form that lands in your dashboard and inbox.
Media kit mode
Audience numbers and engagement per platform, past brand collaborations with real deliverables, and a link you can send instead of rebuilding a deck each quarter.
Link in bio mode
A tappable page with a link stack, grid or cards, your own accent colour, a pinned featured link, an embedded video and email or phone buttons, with analytics behind every tap.
Can I run more than one mode on the same link?
Yes, on Pro. Several modes run on one link with tabs a visitor can switch between, so a recruiter, an editor and a client each read the framing that fits them.
Building your link
Is my own link address free?
Yes. Your readable address, for example description.me/yourname, is included on every plan including Free. Availability is checked live as you type and the address never expires.
Can I import from LinkedIn?
Yes. Paste your LinkedIn profile URL or text and we structure it into roles, education and skills. You can edit everything before publishing.
Can I add a video intro?
Yes, recorded straight in the browser with a countdown and live self-view. Free takes run up to 45 seconds, Pro up to 3 minutes.
How do recommendations work?
You request one by email. The referee confirms through a short form, and only confirmed references show a verified badge on your link.
Does my link carry branding?
Free links show a small line saying they were created with description.me. Pro can switch it off.
Sharing, privacy and results
Where can I share the link?
Anywhere text goes: an application form, an email signature, a pitch email, a client thread, a social bio, a QR code on a card or a printed flyer.
Do visitors need an account to respond?
No. A recruiter, editor or client can leave feedback or send an enquiry without signing up, and it reaches your dashboard and your email.
What analytics do I get?
Opens with dates and referrers, which sections held attention, and which links or projects were clicked. You also get a weekly summary email and a notification when someone responds.
Is my data private?
You control visibility per link. Password protect it, set an expiry date for a confidential search, or keep it unpublished while you rewrite. You can delete a single link or your whole account at any time.
Plans and billing
What does Free include?
One live link running one mode, your own address, LinkedIn import, a 45 second video intro, attachments, PDF export, the response inbox and view analytics.
What does Pro add?
Up to ten links, several modes on one link, a 3 minute video intro, writing assistance in the editor, deeper analytics, password protected and expiring links, no branding line and the weekly summary email.
How much is Pro?
7 dollars a month billed annually at 84 dollars, or 9 dollars month to month. Prices are in US dollars and taxes are calculated at checkout.
How does billing work?
Payments run through Polar. Upgrade, switch billing period or cancel from the Billing page in your dashboard. Cancelling stops future renewals and keeps Pro active until the period ends.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 7 days of your first payment on a new subscription. See the refund policy for the details.
